This in an overview of how we construct our standard low-maintenance deck. Please note that this web page is not a guarantee that your deck will be built according to all of these specs. (For example, we may use 2x8 joists instead of our standard 2x10 joists on smaller decks.) 2x10 double undercarriage beam notched and bolted to 6x6 support posts (all framing lumber is ACQ-treated)
Ledger fastened to house with half-inch lags or half-inch through-bolts, depending on house structure
2x10 joists, 16 inch spacing, attached to 2x10 ledger with galvanized joist hangers
2x12 stair stringers
4x4 Rail posts bolted to frame with half-inch galvanized bolts (posts sleeved with vinyl above deck floor)
Vinyl rail with aluminum channel inside top and bottom rail for strength
Decking attached to frame with trim head stainless steel screws
Step risers covered with Procell trimboards

8500 psi concrete underneath all of our support posts
Rubber flashing between deck ledger and house framing
4’ wide steps with 3' clearance and 1.5 inch cylindrical handrail on one side
