This is a newly installed red cedar deck, with cedar top and bottom rails and black powder-coated aluminum balusters. Cedar is an nice alternative to pressure-treated wood decking. While no wood is absolutely splinter-free, cedar is far less prone to splintering than pressure-treated decking, and works well for pool decks and for someone that will spend a lot of time on the deck with bare feet.
